NOTICE OF PRELIMINARY BUDGET
HEARING
TO RESIDENTS AND TAXPAYERS IN THE
TOWN OF FINE
ST. LAWRENCE COUNTY
STATE OF NEW YORK

PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that the Preliminary Budget Hearing for the fiscal year 2026 will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at 6:30 PM at the Town Office Building at 4078 SH 3 in Star Lake, New York.
A Preliminary Budget has been completed and is on file in the office of the Town Clerk in Star Lake, where it is available for inspection by any interested person during regular business hours.
Pursuant to Section 113 of Town Law, the proposed salaries of the following town officials are hereby specified:
Supervisor $ 17,393.00
Council (4) $ 11,600.00 ($2,900.00 each)
Justice (1) $ 10,809.00
Town Clerk $ 35,850.00
Highway Supt. $ 65,000.00
At such hearing, any person may be heard in favor of or against the Preliminary Budget as compiled, or for or against any items contained therein. The regular town meeting will be held immediately following the hearing.

2026 Preliminary Budget

Mission Statement:

Introduction

Located in Southwest St. Lawrence County, the Town of Fine is named after John Fine, the original landowner. The town was established in 1844, and Amasa Brown was the first Town Supervisor. It covers an area of approximately 169 square miles and is entirely within the Adirondack Park.

The Town is located in the 49th Senatorial District, the 21st Congressional District, and the 117th Assembly District. The 2020 census population was 1304.

Building permits are required and can be obtained through the code enforcement officer.

The Town of Fine offers the outdoor enthusiast a number of activities, be it spring, summer, fall, or winter. Some of these activities include hiking, mountain biking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, riding horseback, or ATVs on many of the designated conservation trails. (You can contact the DEC to find out what trails are open for what activities.) From picnicking at the Griffin Memorial Forest or the picnic area in Wanakena, to fishing on any number of the different waterways, there are many ways to enjoy the beauty of our town. Kids can enjoy playing at any playgrounds and tennis courts in the four hamlets. Also, in the summer months, the Youth Commission offers PeeWee Baseball, T-Ball, and Arts & Crafts at the school. Many people enjoy camping, fishing, or canoeing on the various rivers or lakes. Hunting is also a very popular sport in our area. Star Lake is home to the community's 9-hole golf course and driving range. The C-F Arena is next door, where you can enjoy ice hockey or skating. The picturesque hamlet of Wanakena offers much more than just quiet beauty. You can enjoy a peaceful walk on the historic swinging bridge while taking the walking tour of Wanakena, visit the NYS Ranger School, where they offer summer forest tours, or just ride around and see the many deer that visit with the residents there. Whatever it is that you enjoy doing in the Town of Fine, remember to have fun!
